We are looking forward to the fresh beginning that a new year
brings. Bowles Creek is expecting more fantastic Pinzgauer calves from the
herd sires
we added to our breeding line-up in 2009, as well as the young bull calves we
retained. Our calves keep getting better and better every year, and 2010
should prove to be the best yet.
We had a rare snowstorm on February 11th--we ended up with
about six inches of snow overnight! Most of the livestock wasn't sure what
was happening, but they all seemed to enjoy it as much as us. Look
at the slideshow on the home page for more pictures of the "East Texas Blizzard
of 2010."
Currently we are breeding around 80 mother cows. Our early
2010 calves are all going to be born before May 1, 2010, and the cows will start
calving again on October 1, 2010, and run through May 1, 2011. We will not have
any calves born from May 1 through October 1 - due to the heat and drought. By
doing this program, this gives potential customers very uniform in age and size
to select from. As for as bulls, we are utilizing our herd sires as well as
stored semen. At present, we have around 15-20 future herd sire prospects for
sale ranging in age from weaning (six months) up to three- year-olds. Many of
these are polled bulls that we are retaining. We also have co/calf pairs, bred
heifers, and open heifers - any type / any age / any price range. Package deals
and volume discounts are available as well as payment plans to help out the
buyers. If someone is wanting a Pinzgauer, we will make sure we find them a way
to get one or a trailer load. Free delivery within 150 miles as always. We
realize how hard it has been for everyone the past year and a half. We lived
through it and have survived and even grown in numbers. Our cattle are in some
of the best shape they have ever been in this time of the year. Green grass and
luscious green, ALL NATURAL, pastures are right around the corner.
Our herd is considered to be all natural beef. We do not use any chemicals.
Our herd health is very good with minimal inoculations given. We utilize
"natural" fertilizers (manure) when necessary. Everything is done in an effort
to produce a true grass-fed beef animal. Our profitability comes from our
practices of letting the cattle speak for themselves - and they do.
Our kids had fun in the snow for several hours. Even
though we do go on ski trips a few times a year, it is something about having it
in your own backyard that makes it even more fun! "Santa"
brought a five-year-old bred QH (who is a trained cutting horse) named Jazzy to
the kids this year. We will use her to help work the cattle and just have
fun with around the ranch.
We
will be updating our website more frequently this year to show you all the
outstanding cattle we produce. In the meantime, please inquire by email or
phone for more information. We also have lots of heifers for sale--now is
the time to improve your own herd of Pinzgauer cattle!
