News from 2010 . . .

We had a rare snowstorm on February 11th, 2010--we ended up with about six inches of snow overnight!  Most of the livestock wasn't sure what was happening, but they all seemed to enjoy it as much as us.   Look at the slideshow on the home page for more pictures of the "East Texas Blizzard of 2010."

Currently we are breeding around 80 mother cows.  Our early 2010 calves are all going to be born before May 1, 2010, and the cows will start calving again on October 1, 2010, and run through May 1, 2011.  We will not have any calves born from May 1 through October 1 - due to the heat and drought.  By doing this program, this gives potential customers cattle that is very uniform in age and size to select from.  As for as bulls, we are utilizing our herd sires, as well as stored semen.  At present, we have around 15-20 future herd sire prospects for sale ranging in age from weaning (six months) up to three year-olds.  Many of these are polled bulls that we are retaining.  We also have cow/calf pairs, bred heifers, and open heifers - any type / any age / any price range.  Package deals and volume discounts are available as well as payment plans to help out the buyers.  If someone is wanting a Pinzgauer, we will make sure we find them a way to get one or a trailer load.  Free delivery within 150 miles, as always.  We realize how hard it has been for everyone the past year and a half.  We lived through it and have survived and even grown in numbers.  Our cattle are in some of the best shape they have ever been in this time of the year.  Green grass and luscious, green--ALL NATURAL--pastures are right around the corner.

Our herd is considered to be all natural beef.  We do not use any chemicals.  Our herd health is very good with minimal inoculations given.  We utilize "natural" fertilizers (manure) when necessary.  Everything is done in an effort to produce a true grass-fed beef animal.  Our profitability comes from our practices of letting the cattle speak for themselves - and they do.

Our kids had fun in the snow for several hours.  Even though we do go on ski trips a few times a year, it is something about having it in your own backyard that makes it even more fun!    "Santa" brought a five-year-old bred QH (who is a trained cutting horse) named Jazzy to the kids this year.  We will use her to help work the cattle and just have fun with around the ranch.

News from 2009 . . .

As usual, we have been busy!  Between all the new calves arriving, we are preparing to take several head of our Pinzgauer cattle to the Sterling Silver Select Sale in Tennessee over Memorial Day weekend next month (see some of what we're taking by clicking here).

We have also added some new herd sires to our breeding line-up and are retaining several young bull calves as replacements.  Our calves keep getting better and better every year--click here to see some of our 2008 calves already on the ground.   We have many more not shown yet here on our website, so please inquire by email or phone for more information.  We also have lots of heifers for sale--now is the time to improve your own herd of Pinzgauer cattle!

News from 2008 . . .

We've been in Alabama at the Southeastern Livestock Show and Expo March 6th - 9th.  We had seven heifers showing there and achieved Grand Champion Female in the Junior Show with BCCC Miss Tee.

Next, we went to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo March 17th-22nd, where we showed one heifer, SB Lisbett, to a third place in Class 13 of the ORB class.  The competition was stiff!

We are headed to our county show March 27th through 29th.  In between all of our travels, we have had 20 calves so far this year and still have another 12-15 more to go for spring calving.  Many good herd-sire prospects and several show-quality heifer calves are on the ground enjoying the green grass that is popping up daily.

The start of the new year has been busy for us, as usual!  Our daughter, Elizabeth, showed her cow to Grand Champion Pinzgauer Female at the State Fair of Louisiana in November of 2007--we just received our official photo (shown above).

Our next major show will be in March, where we travel to Montgomery, AL, the first week in March; and then the third week in March we're headed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  The final week in March is our County Fair.  So, we've got our work cut out for us, and it will be a very busy March!

We have just returned from Canada where we attended a Pinzgauer Sale.  There were some great cattle there, and we came home with four cows and two heifers from Diamond T Cattle Company in Olds, Alberta, Canada.  We got some really good cattle with a completely different set of bloodlines, which should add a lot to our herd.

We had a few calves in December, but our big calving season is fast-approaching starting now through April.  We should have a wonderful calf crop in a few months, and many will be for sale.  Watch for new photos!

News 2007 . . .

It has been a tremendous year for us.  We added SO MANY cows to the herd this year.  We're currently running a little over 100 head, up from 60 head in September.  We're bringing in more cattle this week from Tennessee.  It has just been pretty wild.  We've gone out and added a lot to our marketing side of the business by advertising in several publications.  A local farm and ranch bi-monthly publication for the Eastern Texas area, the Farm and Ranch News, did a story on us a couple of months ago.

We had a very wet summer, but the hay crop has been good (around 2,000 rolls!).  We have been selling hay all over the country to drought-stricken areas, and there is a lot of work involved with that.

We've traveled to Milwaukee for the National Show in October.....which we had several class winners.  There, I was elected as Vice President of the National Board of Directors for the American Pinzgauer Association.    We then had Grand Champion Female at the State Fair of Louisiana the first of this month.

Our daughter, Elizabeth, raised her Angus cross steer, Reeses (like the candy) as her FFA project in 2007.  She sold him at the County Show Auction held in late March 2007 and raised about $4,000 with him between his selling price and donations she acquired from family members.  His finished weight was 1175 lbs.
